HERE are the 10 most commonly mispronounced place names near Salisbury.

Wiltshire is full of some rather uniquely named villages and towns, that those who aren't from around here may find hard to pronounce upon reading them.

We've put together a list of the most commonly mispronounced place names near Salisbury, and how to correctly say them.

1. Salisbury - S-alls-bree - We couldn't write a list like this without featuring our very own city now could we?

2. Figheldean - File-dean - Quite a difficult one if you've only ever read the word, but hopefully some readers will now know the correct way to say it

3. Oare - Or - Surprisingly, some people will say "ooo-arre" like a farmer when pronouncing the name of this small Wiltshire village

4. Frome - Fr-oom - Forget what you were taught in school when it comes to pronouncing this name, the e at the end is purely decorative

5. Gillingham  - Gill-ing-um - Not to be confused with Gillingham in Kent, which is pronounced Jill-ing-um, we use the hard G sound around here

6. Breamore - Bremm-er - The 'ea' are pronounced the same way they are in words like 'bread' - and just to confuse you a little bit more, you should be saying 'mer' not 'more'

7. Damerham - Dam-er-um - A more straightforward one, whatever you do, don't say 'dam-er-ham'

8. Lover - Low-ver - You won't be feeling the love when you find out how to say the name of this place, in fact, you'll probably feel rather low

9. Fovant - Fov-ant - Again, school teaches you the 'short vowel, double letter' rule - but that doesn't apply here

10. Trowbridge - Tr-oh-bridge - Some people will rhyme 'trow' with 'brow'... And some people will be wrong to do so

Are there any places we've missed?
