Live traffic monitors continue to show closures in the Hyde Lane and Hern Lane areas outside Fordingbridge following an oil spill.

A lorry carrying oil started leaking after being involved in a crash with a car at approximately 11am on the morning of Monday, January 15.

Google Maps’ live traffic feature has indicated that Hyde Lane is expected to be closed until 3pm.

Initial reports indicated that the crash occurred on Hern Lane, though Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have since clarified that the incident took place on Hyde Lane.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision involving a car and a heavy goods vehicle on Hyde Lane at 11am this morning (15 Jan).

“Crews from Fordingbridge, Cosham and Redbridge were joined by firefighters from Dorset and Wiltshire FRS, along with specialist support vehicles from Winchester and Romsey were on the scene to make the scene safe, with the HGV suffering a leak.

“The vehicle was handed over to a recovery service before firefighters returned to station.”

Update: An original version of this article claimed that the crash occurred on Hern Lane. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have since clarified that the incident took place on nearby Hyde Lane.
