A SHOP that has been in Fordingbridge for more than 30 years has closed and it has been described as a "huge loss" for the town.

Miles of Value, on Fordingbridge High Street, closed for the final time on Thursday afternoon, January 18.

The independent shop sold all sorts, from games, stationery, tools and wool, and residents have said it will be sadly missed. It has been on the High Street for more than 30 years.

A sign was posted on the shop in December to inform customers it would be closing due to the cost of rent.

Staff at Miles of Value posted on a local community social media group on the shop's last day to say thank you and goodbye to customers.

One member of staff commented: "Well it really is the end of an era.

"We have enjoyed watching all the children literally grow up in front of our eyes, and then coming with children of their own.

"We hope we have given the people of Fordingbridge happy memories of us too."

Mayor and chairman of Fordingbridge Town Council Councillor Peter White described the departure as a "huge loss", adding: "It has been a really great, successful little shop and it has always had lovely staff.

"From a town council perspective and as a local resident I think it is going to be a huge loss to the town. It is a shame and it has been around for a long time."

Cllr White said the council would be "as supportive as possible" to any business that wants to move into the vacant site at 28-30 High Street.

"Fordingbridge continues to be a thriving community and we want to try and keep the High Street attractive for the local community to utilise," he added.

Miles of Value was approached and asked for further information about the closure.
