DRIVERS have been left feeling "dismayed" after they were slapped with fines following the implementation of new parking restrictions.

A row of cars received tickets for parking along Exeter Street following a change brought in on Tuesday, January 2.

The spaces have been converted into coach parking for four months while Salisbury Coach Park is remodelled.

Christina George, from Salisbury, received a Penalty Notice Charge on Saturday, January 20, and said she wants to warn other drivers before they fall foul of the same offence.

When she returned to her car at around 4pm, Cristina saw that all the other drivers had also been ticketed for parking in the spaces.

She said: "There was absolutely nothing to alert users to the change other than the two very small new parking restriction signs which, if you had no reason to think they had changed, you would not notice.

"Other drivers I spoke to were dismayed, telling me they were also regular users of the two-hour free parking and had not noticed the change in restrictions."

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council said: "We always inform people before making changes like this."

The four parking spaces on Exeter Street are the only places where coaches can pick up and set down passengers in the city centre until the Mill Stream Approach works are finished.
