THE daughter of pub historian is finally publishing her father's life's work after more than three decades.

Titled, 'An Incomplete History of Ringwood Pubs', the book aims to compile the works of Roy Glyn Longham who spent 20 years discovering Ringwood's rich pub history.

Detailing the people that owned and worked in pubs as far back as the 1500s, Mr Longham's work included hundreds of records to identify old pub locations and those who worked in them.

However, after he died in 2008, aged 84, none of his findings were ever published until now.

Mr Longham's daughter Janet Mobbs rediscovered her father's work and compiled into a book ,which is to be launched on January 22.

Ms Mobbs said: "It feels really good to get my dad's work published. When I started I thought as long as I can get a copy into Ringwood Library and the Meeting House, I'll be happy so to have got it into a book is great and hopefully it's something a lot people will use.

"I just want it to be out of there and for his work not to be wasted. I feel so proud of my dad that it's his work."

Split into three parts, the book aims to introduce you to those who owned the pubs along with other interesting information.

With over 300 names listed in the index, Ms Mobbs is not only publishing her father's work but also is looking to extend it.

She said: "There were obvious gaps and bits where people had the same surnames. Two different servants would work at two different pubs had the same surnames and I started thinking about wider connections.

"I had all these questions I want answered but I realised that's another person's lifetime works to do. I hope people get in touch and we can compile another book in the future."

The event will be held at Ringwood Meeting House and marks the centenary of her father's birth.

The book will be made available from Ringwood's Meeting House, History Centre and from The Lighthouse Cookshop in Ringwood's Market Place.

Cover price is £9.50 and copies will be made available on RingwoodPubs.co.uk.
