The Best Salisbury Allotment and Scarecrow Competitions are making a comeback.

Salisbury City Council ceased hosting the popular competitions in 2022, but they have been resurrected for 2024 with the Allotments and Gardens Association (AGAS) taking on the organisation.

Both competitions are free to enter and open to anybody with an allotment on any Salisbury City Council site. The scarecrow competition is open to children, adults of all ages and groups but the scarecrow must be on a city council allotment site to be eligible.

The judging of both competitions will take place during the week of Monday, June 24 to Sunday, June 30 and individuals can enter either one or both competitions.

The closing date for entries is 1pm on Monday, June 17. Entry forms and the judging criteria are available online with paper copies available during opening hours from the AGAS Trading Hut, located inside Fisherton Farm Allotment Site A near Coldharbour Lane, every Saturday and Sunday between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

Winners will be notified in July and presentations will be made at the AGAS Summer Horticultural Show on Saturday, August 17.

AGAS chair Lindsey Bellringer said: “The association wants to make it a fun event while encouraging experienced gardeners, and those new to growing their own, to share their achievements.”
