A MAN who was caught allegedly trying to look up a schoolgirl's skirt has been arrested.
The suspect attempted to upskirt a South Wilts Grammar School pupil in Victoria Park at the end of the school day on Wednesday, January 10.
Two days later, on January 12, the teenage girl's allegations were reported to Wiltshire Police.
A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of voyeurism on Sunday, January 21, and police said he remained in custody for questioning.
Police officers were due to patrol the area over the coming weeks and the Journal understands this was an isolated incident.
Deputy head teacher Jill Bellamy sent a letter to parents on Friday, January 19, to tell them there had been an incident.
She wrote: "We do hope that this letter does not cause alarm; incidents such as this are extremely rare.
"We will continue to work with local police to prioritise the safety of all members of the SWGS community."
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We have arrested a man on suspicion of voyeurism following an incident in Salisbury.
“On January 12, we received a report that a man had attempted to upskirt the victim, a girl in her teens, in Victoria Park on January 10.
“Following local enquiries, a man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of voyeurism yesterday (21/01).
“He remains in custody for questioning.”
