Police have launched an investigation after a man was stabbed in Weymouth.

The attack has sparked a major inquiry with a town centre street cordoned off this morning.

Police said the victim was found at an address in the town centre with injuries following an 'altercation' which is thought to have occurred in Caroline Place.

Caroline Place, between Great George Street and Park Street, was cordoned off on Saturday morning while enquiries continue.

The cordon was lifted about midday.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received a report at 6.10am on Saturday, January 27 that a man had been found with injuries at an address in Weymouth town centre following an altercation that is believed to have occurred in Caroline Place.

"Officers attended and a man aged in his 30s was taken to hospital for treatment to suspected stab wounds that are not believed to be life-threatening.

"A full investigation into the incident is being carried out by detectives from Dorset County CID and cordons have been put in place as enquiries are carried out.

"There will be an increased policing presence in the vicinity and officers can be approached by members of the public with any information or concerns."
