"An inexperienced or poorly trained surgeon can result in significant harm to your hair and scalp. This could result in an unnatural or patchy hairline, infection and visible scarring.

"When selecting a surgeon, be sure that they have a range of qualifications and have performed this surgery before, so you are in safe hands.

"Seeing before and after photos and patient testimonials provide a visual aid when it comes to making the right choice.

"They provide a clear image of the surgeon's skill, as well as what the results could look like."

How to get thicker hair at home

Mr Vassiliou added: "If you aren’t in the position to have surgery or don’t feel it’s the right option,  there are ways to get thicker hair at home.

Eggs

"Protein is essential for thick and strong hair, and you can create an egg treatment from home.

  • Beat 1-2 eggs together in a small bowl
  • Apply this mixture to the scalp and damp hair
  •  Leave on the scalp for surround 30 minutes
  • Wash hair thoroughly warm water and a gentle shampoo

Proper nutrition

"Thin hair can be attributed to a diet that is deficient in healthy fats, protein and vitamins. Consider adding in the following foods for thicker, healthy hair:

  • Salmon, which is rich in protein and fatty acids
  • Green, black, pinto, or other beans, which contain protein
  • Eggs, which contain protein, omega-3s, and iron
  • Greek yoghurt, which is a source of protein
  • Walnuts, almonds, and other nuts, which are sources of fatty acids

Specialised shampoos

"Thickening shampoos and conditioners can be a great way to stimulate hair growth and a thicker appearance whilst having your morning shower. Stimulating ingredients such as collagen and ginseng are great for helping to thicken thinner hair, and can be used on all hair types."
