THREE weeks of traffic disruption is to be expected as a gas company has announced it will be installing a new set of traffic lights in Salisbury.

A section of Devizes Road, near Bedford Road, will be controlled by temporary lights from Monday, March 4, until Monday, March 18.

Gas company SGN is bringing in its contractor I&G to replace residents' old metal gas mains with new plastic pipes.

SGN said the essential work is to make sure people "continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply".

Parts of the road and footpaths will be dug up while the work is ongoing.

Waseem Hanif, a spokesperson for SGN, said: "We’ll be carrying out essential upgrades to our gas network in Devizes Road, Salisbury, at the junction of Bedford Road from Monday, March 4, for three weeks.

"Our engineering team will need to put in place temporary traffic lights at this location for everyone’s safety. The lights will be manually controlled at peak times to minimise disruption as much as possible."

The disruption follows a gas leak on Devizes Road which required temporary lights to fix and work here ended on Friday, February 23.
