AN 11-YEAR-OLD boy has been named champion at the British Arenacross final at Wembley.

Jamie Currie, 11, from Ringwood won the 85cc Small Wheel Supermini champion title on February 24 in the 2024 British Arenacross tour which finished at Wembley stadium.

Finishing third in last years event, Sam proved himself the best of the best in a competition tour that spread across five cities in eight rounds.

Jamie's mum, Sam Currie, 39, said: "Its been a really hectic few months with the tour starting in January and travelling all over the place. It has been such fun and the crowd is amazing.

"Jamie has done absolutely amazing in his category and he was racing 13/14-year-old boys which are a lot bigger than him."

The Arenacross tour sees a variety of classes go head to head on track with select riders chosen to compete.

Despite his young age, Jamie has been racing in motocross since he was five and a want to compete in the Arenacross since he was three.

Sam said: "We took him to his first Arenacross when he was three and he turned around and said 'I want to do that'.

"I was thinking in his 20s but lo and behold, at 11 he has won the championship for small wheel."

Beginning with Ringwood Motocross Club, he has since raced in national events for 3flo Concepts Yamaha Team and sponsored by Crescent Motorcycles.

Although by nature a dangerous sport, Sam doesn't find it tough to watch Jamie because she is used to the environment due to her husband.

Sam said: "Any motorsport can be hair raising and sometimes accidents can happen, especially in Arenacross because it's such a tight track. But I've watched my husband race for years so I'm used to the environment.

"My husband's mum won't come watch thought because she gets too nervous about it. I feel like I have to be there, and I also want to be."

A costly sport, Sam has also been thankful to local businesses who helped fund Jamie's Arenacross journey.

The family nearly didn't compete in the event but was able to after several local businesses stepped up and offered to help.
