A RINGWOOD pub has raised hundreds of pounds for its local food bank.

The Railway in Ringwood and its quiz supporters have raised £500 for the Ringwood food bank.

The pub has been raising funds since December and will be using the money to make a big donation of food, cleaning products, and sanitary products to the food bank.

Levi Craddock, the general manager of The Railway Pub and Kitchen, said: “Many of our regular customers were asking if we could do a quiz.

“We wanted to do something that would be fun but at the same time give back to the local community.”

The pub charges £2 per person, and £1 of that goes into a prize pot for the winners, and the other pound is put into the charity pot.

Levi said: “I cannot express enough how grateful we are to our regulars and everyone coming in.

“The support has been overwhelming, and it is so lovely to see.”

Levi said that many of the customers who won the quiz ended up donating their prize money back into the charity pot to support the food bank.

The event is run by quiz master Mike, who puts together a number of general knowledge questions and often themed quizzes depending on what’s going on at the time.

In February, The Railway hosted a Superbowl-themed quiz and served American-style food such as burgers and chicken wings.

The Oscars are hosted in March, so the pub is hosting an Oscars-themed quiz, and in April, they plan to throw a St George’s Day night.

In December, The Railway hosted a special quiz dubbed ‘The Big Swanky Quiz’ and saw over 100 people attend.

On this occasion, the pub owners said they would match the money raised on the evening, which totalled £200.

Levi said: “We wanted to donate the money to our local food bank because, as a pub, we hate the idea of people being unable to eat. “

She added: “In the future, we are definitely considering donating money to other charities.

“We just want to make a difference to our community.”
