A RINGWOOD woman has taken on the challenge to walk 300 kilometres for the charity Dogs for Autism.

Elisa Bygrave-Singh, 43, is aiming to complete 300 kilometres across four ultra challenges in 2024.

Starting with the Easter 50k set to happen on April 6, Elisa will follow her first event with a further 250km of walking.

She said: "The first event is the Easter 50k which will be the warm up as I like to call it. Then I'm doing the London 2 Brighton which is 100k and then I'm doing the Thames Paths again.

"Then because I was doing three, the fourth one camp up and I thought, well I may as well make it a round number in October as well. I think I need to get my head checked."

While a daunting challenge, Elisa is well prepared for the event, previously taking part in the Thames Path before and also the Isle of Wight Ultra, a 106km full loop of the island.

However, this is most she has done in one year and believes it is for a good cause.

She said: "I'm training at the moment and obviously the weather has been a bit rubbish but I'll take the dogs out, go for a few good miles and hope for the best. I'm feeling ok about it.

"Autism for Dogs was started by a lady called Hilary who realised that dogs do bring out the best for autistic people. I've got an autistic son myself and he has a wonderful relationship with my dogs as well."

Elisa has two dogs, Rami and Billy, who have helped her son with his autism.

Elisa hopes she can help raise funds and awareness for the charity which offers dogs to autistic children who may benefit from their presence.

She said: "They don't charge people for these dogs or for training them and solely rely on people like me who do stupid things.

"They're a lovely charity and I can't speak highly enough of them."
