A FOUNDING member of Salisbury Walking Football has celebrated his 85th birthday - and has no plans to hang up his boots.

Ray Jones , who helped set up the walking football project ten years ago, had his 85th birthday and he is still a regular player at Five Rivers Leisure Centre scoring goals for fun.

A teammate of his said that he remembers Ray scoring a hat trick of goals against him and the "cheeky little grin that he had on his face when the third goal went in".

A spokesperson from the club said: "Ray loves playing because it keeps him fit both physically and mentally and he enjoys the banter between the players.

"He fully intends to continue playing for as long as he can and make it part of his ongoing fitness regime which also involves diving and playing the banjo and ukelele in local bands. He is a great inspiration to us all.

"Over the 10 years since that first session, Salisbury Walking Football has attracted players of all abilities and levels of experience from those who never played the game before to ex-professionals. With over 100 members and offering five sessions every week, most like Ray play recreationally, while others take part in league matches and some even play internationally."
