A SALISBURY-based community group has come third place in 'the Community Group of the Year' award at the Wiltshire Life Awards.

Sounds Better CIC, a music-based wellbeing group which provides support for people with long-term health conditions, including dementia and lung conditions, was shortlisted for the award, with the ceremony being held last Friday, March 8 at the Corn Exchange in Devizes.

Sounds Better CIC runs the Salisbury Breathless Singers group for those living with lung conditions, which meets on a Tuesday afternoon in Wilton and also provides the option to join online.

The group came third place, behind Salisbury Community Hub for Ukraine and Swindon and Wiltshire Pride who came joint-first.

A spokesperson for the group said: "We had a really great evening at the Wilshire Life Awards last week, I think both the magazine and the awards will be sorely missed by the Wiltshire community as a whole.

"Our group, Salisbury Breathless Singers, came third in our category of Community Group of the Year. Joint- first place went to Salisbury Community Hub for Ukraine and Swindon and Wiltshire Pride - both very worthy winners.

"We were so honoured to have even been included in the shortlist with these groups."

Speaking previously, Liv McLennan, director of Sounds Better CIC, said: "I’m so pleased we have been shortlisted for this award; our group has been running for several years now and I’m proud of the progress our group members have made.

"It’s great to be recognised for this. There are so many brilliant community groups in Wiltshire so with so much tough competition it means even more to have been shortlisted."

Sounds Better CIC also runs six-week introductory courses in partnership with Salisbury’s Parish Nurse at various venues around Salisbury and simultaneously online via Zoom.
