A MAN planned an elaborate proposal, sneaking an engagement ring into the final treasure chest for his long-term girlfriend to find in an escape room.

Love was in the air at Live Escape Salisbury in The Cross Keys Shopping Centre as a young couple became engaged while playing their escape experience.

Amoy Mckenzie, 31, discovered her engagement ring in the final treasure chest while playing Live Escape Salisbury’s game 'Pieces of Eight.'

Husband-to-be Ubeiden Cifuentes Samboni, 33, from south London, said he wanted to do something "different from the traditional" to surprise his long-term partner, Amoy.

Mr Samboni contacted Live Escape Salisbury’s owner, Claire Pitcher, a week before his proposal. She said: "When the two of them arrived I could hardly contain myself as we had it all planned out.

"He managed to sneak me the ring while Amoy was distracted and I put it in amongst the pirate treasure they would win when solving the final puzzle."

Fiancé Ubeiden had managed to set up a camera to film the hour-long escape experience and capture Amoy’s reaction.

Amoy said: "I didn’t suspect a thing. I had no idea that he was going to propose.

"When I saw the box in the treasure chest I was confused for a moment, wondering why there was a black box at the end.

"But as soon as I saw the light from the box shining on the ring I started to cry. I couldn’t believe that he was proposing.

"I looked around and saw him on his knees and I was in complete shock, but so happy.

"He did such an amazing job surprising me the way he did. I love my ring."

The couple were celebrating the four-year anniversary of when they met during the Covid lockdown.

Amoy was learning Spanish and Ubeiden learning English on a language exchange app.

Ubeiden said: "We travelled back and forth a lot to see each other once borders opened up, and the rest is history."

Still on a high from the romantic gesture at Live Escape Salisbury, the couple haven’t yet picked a date for the big day.

Ubeiden added: "We’re not sure when the wedding will be as we’re enjoying our engagement right now. We’re hoping to have the wedding in Colombia in the future.

"We both would also love to give a big shout out to Claire and her husband Charlie for helping to make my proposal so special."
