A SALISBURY-based garden designer is set to inspire thousands of visitors at this year’s BBC Gardeners’ World Spring Fair at Beaulieu in the New Forest, with a 'Beautiful Border'.

Always popular at BBC Gardeners’ World Events, the small but perfectly formed Beautiful Borders are miniature show gardens, packed with creative planting and design inspiration for small gardens and difficult spaces. This year’s Spring Fair’s Beautiful Borders theme is ’Share My Space’ and designers have been quick to take up the challenge.

David Long’s Border, Memory Lane – Grandfather’s Garden, is inspired by his earliest gardening memory at his great grandfather’s cottage garden, a small space, bursting with flowers, vegetables and character, deep in rural Wiltshire.

David said: “The cottage and garden were a hive of activity, both with wildlife and people. To me, it was such a fun and interesting place to spend time, not highly manicured but managed. To me, it was garden perfection - not immaculate by any means, but packed with flowers, planted by hand and by the wind, a feast for the eyes and insects!”

The BBC Gardeners’ World Spring Fair takes place at Beaulieu in the New Forest, from May 3-5.

Tickets for are on sale now at bbcgardenersworldfair.com, and include full access to all of Beaulieu’s gardens, grounds and attractions.
