I joined the Salisbury Conservative Association, and continue to sit on its executive, based on long-standing Conservative values.
These include freedom, individuality and individual responsibility.
Accordingly, I find the Sunak government's proposed ban on smoking bizarre.
It cuts against everything previously thought to be involved in Conservatism, including John Stuart Mill's aphorism, that "your rights end where my nose begins."
A libertarian view of Conservatism, can't tenably countenance this thoroughly bizarre proposal.
