TWO popular venues in Warrington town centre have been given gleaming food hygiene ratings by inspectors.

Representatives of the Food Standards Agency recently visited branches of two international chains within Golden Square Shopping Centre.

Inspections are routinely carried out to ensure that establishments are up to scratch with food hygiene regulations.

This was certainly the case with Taco Bell, which opened in Old Market Place in November and has been given a five-out-of-five rating.

The Tex-Mex eatery is based inside the former Co-operative Bank and Travel unit and serves a variety of Mexican-inspired foods, including tacos, burritos, quesadillas and nachos.

Also recently inspected was Caffe Nero, also in Old Market Place, which has been graded four-out-of-five by the Food Standards Agency.

Inspections are carried out based on criteria including hygienic food handling, including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.

Management of food safety is also looked at, such as system or checks, and the cleanliness and condition of facilities and the building.
