HERE is a look at community events coming up in St Helens.

Saints on film


LUCEM House in Corporation Street will host a fascinating peep into the 1950s to 1970s next Wednesday (8 May) with a Saints on Film presentation featuring clips from the club’s glorious history.
The afternoon, which commences at 1.30pm, features colour footage from the archive of Graham Gerrard, Brian Potter and Alex Service.
Games featured include the Lancashire Cup final 1953 against Wigan and the Wembley clashes of 1961 and 1966 against the old foe. 1970s clashes include the Challenge Cup final of 1972 and 1976 against Leeds and Widnes respectively, as well as the Premiership final against Salford. There is also an extra feature ‘Goodbye Knowsley Road 1890-2010’ from Joel Bowling.
The afternoon will see special guests from Saints’ past playing roster with Brian McGinn, Peter Harvey, Jimmy Measures and Les Jones.

CHILDREN’S Judo beginner classes take place at SKK Judo club, Legh Street, Newton-le-Willows on Mondays and Wednesdays 
Classes for age 4-8 years are 6pm to 7pm 
For age 9-12 years it is 7 to 8pm.

Dementia
LEARN how to become a dementia friend.
An information event is taking place at Newton Community Centre, Park Road South, Newton-le-Willows, WA12 8EX on Monday, May 13.
The event, supported by the Alzheimer’s Society, last for one hour.

MOMO’s cafe hosts Dungeons & Dragons adventures every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday night.
The schedule is follows: Wednesday: World-Building Wednesdays 🌄
Thursday: Thrilling Thursdays 
 Friday: Fantasy Fridays
The aim is to enjoy adventure, forge friendships, unleash creativity, escape and learn the game.

Smithy event


THE Smithy Heritage Centre is to host its annual Blacksmith’s Day event once more.
It takes place on Saturday, May 18, and runs from noon to 5pm at the Kiln Lane venue, in Eccleston.
There will be country craft demonstrations, real ale and cider and home made cakes available.
The theme for the Smithy’s exhibition this year is ‘Keeping up Appearances’, which is an exhibition looking at World War two-era fashion.

Room hire


MOMO’s cafe on Westfield Street is offering free room hire for two hours for community groups.
A statement posted on social media by the venue read: “We’re thrilled to invite you to be a part of the vibrant atmosphere at our community café.
