Police have thanked the public for their 'quick response' after a man was reported carrying a rifle, which turned out to be fishing rods.
On Tuesday, June 11 around 11.30am, police officers in Salisbury responded to reports that a man had been seen in Bemerton Heath carrying a rifle.
A thorough search of the area was carried out and police located a man matching the description given, who was instead carrying fishing rods, which had been mistaken as a suspected rifle.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we made the area safe, and for the quick response from the community."
