TRAVELLERS have set up an encampment in a private field on Britford Lane.

Seven caravans were towed onto the Longford Estate-owned land in Salisbury, which is leased to a tenant, on Tuesday, August 26.

Wiltshire Police officers were spotted at the scene at around 6pm. The Journal has contacted the force for a comment.

Police later served them legal notices.

That group set up several encampments in the Salisbury area, including at Queen Elizabeth Gardens, Victoria Park, Bishopdown Playing Fields and Britford Park and Ride.

They later moved to private school fields in Laverstock on the final day of term.
