IN the final game of the league season, Salisbury Hockey Club Ladies 2’s beat Aldershot & Farnham, 4-0, to secure promotion. Match report by Matt Salmon.
A win, combined with a favourable result in the Winchester versus Bournemouth fixture, would see them secure second place and an immediate return to Division 1 South following last season’s relegation.
A strong crowd gathered to support Salisbury as they set about completing their side of the equation. Debs Bush opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a well-worked short corner, settling early nerves. Mariam Mohidden-Jones, fresh from her hat-trick the previous week, continued her fine form by doubling the lead to make it 2–0.
It wasn’t all one-way traffic, however, and Salisbury had to dig deep during a competitive first half, even finishing the period with ten players after a green card for Lucy Chadwick.
The second half brought more drama, with Erin Oliver receiving a card early on, but she made an immediate impact on her return—pouncing in the circle to score Salisbury’s third following a goalmouth scramble. Both sides continued to battle, with further cards issued, but Salisbury maintained control. Tabitha Farrell sealed an emphatic 4–0 victory late on, putting the result beyond doubt.

Alice Chadwick delivered an outstanding and consistent performance to earn Player of the Match, capping off a superb team display.
Attention then turned elsewhere, where champions Winchester defeated Bournemouth 2–0, confirming Salisbury Ladies 2’s promotion back to Division 1 South.
While this marks the end of the league campaign, hockey at Salisbury continues throughout the summer. A mixed summer league begins in May, and the July 7’s Festival promises to be bigger than ever.
For those new to hockey, fortnightly development sessions run on Saturdays, alongside walking hockey and disability-inclusive sessions on Thursdays (6–7 pm) and Fridays (10–11 am). Pick up a Stick sessions for beginners are being planned for later in the summer.
