The Green Man Parade is making a return to Burley next month.

The event, organised by the Green Man Association of the New Forest, will take place on Saturday, May 9, reviving a 170-year-old tradition.

This will be the third year the parade has taken place since being reintroduced by the association in 2023.

The festivities will start at 9am with headdress making at Burley Manor hotel, followed by a 10am flag raising ceremony.

The parade will proceed through the village to New Forest Cider, with Morris dancers and drummers accompanying the Green Man and his Green Lady.

The event will also include a toast from the baron at the Queen's Head at 1pm, Morris dancing in the village pubs from 1pm to 3pm, and storytelling and a Punch and Judy show at Burley Manor at 3.30pm.

A flag lowering and closing ceremony will round off the day at 4.30pm.

The parade has its roots in the late 1850s when it was held on May Day in Burley, involving the local church and school children.

Everyone is invited to participate in the free event, which aims to ensure the "fruitfulness and harmony in the New Forest" for the coming year.
