The lease for a much-loved pub has been surrendered.

Ross and Amy Anderson, who have been running The Boot Inn in Berwick St James, announced they are stepping away from the pub, citing the pressures of the hospitality industry and the need to prioritise family life.

In a statement shared on Saturday, May 30, the couple said they had made the decision “with a mix of gratitude and sadness”, describing it as an “incredibly hard decision”.

They said: “You only live once and when things happen that remind you to cherish the life you have, changes are often needed.”

The couple also pointed to the “demanding nature” of running a pub in the current climate, adding that while their family had been “incredibly supportive”, balancing the needs of the business with family life had become increasingly difficult.

Ross and Amy thanked customers, staff, suppliers and members of the local community who had supported “our little pub” over the past two years.

They said: “Your friendship, custom and kindness have meant the world to us, and we will always be grateful for the memories we have shared.”

They are now working with Red Oak Taverns to ensure a smooth transition at the pub.

Ross and Amy also encouraged anyone interested in taking on the tenancy of the country pub to come forward, directing prospective applicants to visit Find My Pub for any enquiries on: findmypub.com/properties/view/25954
