Wiltshire Council approves 25 new homes in Whiteparish

Wiltshire Council has granted reserved matters approval for a 25-home scheme in the village of Whiteparish, located south of the A27.

Mark White, managing director at regional housebuilder Bargate, said: "The Bargate design team, alongside our architect KSA, have worked tirelessly to design a high-quality and well-designed scheme to complement this pretty village while delivering much-needed homes for a range of buyers.

"We are particularly pleased to be delivering affordable homes and First Homes, which will allow couples and families to remain in the village, alongside a range of open market properties.

"New parkland, footpaths, and play areas will be created for the whole community to enjoy.

The 1.7-hectare (4.2-acre) site sits just south of the A27 Romsey Road and already received outline planning permission in 2024.

A mix of one- to five-bedroom homes will be built, including First Homes and affordable properties in partnership with VIVID, Hampshire’s largest and not-for-profit provider of affordable homes.

The development aims to reflect the village’s character with traditional red-brick elevations, bay windows and scalloped tile hanging.

Its layout is designed to minimise the visibility of vehicles, with parking located on-plot, within garages or in small, discreet groupings.

As part of Bargate’s environmental commitments, all properties will include energy-efficient features such as solar PV panels, air-source heat pumps, high levels of insulation and EV charging points.

Nearly two acres of public parkland will be created, incorporating a play area and wildflower planting.

The plans also include sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) to enhance biodiversity and manage surface water.

An extensive footpath network takes walkers northwards to West Dean, or southwards to the forest trails and attractions of the New Forest.

The village of Whiteparish, located between Salisbury and Romsey, won the title of ‘Best Kept Village in Wiltshire’ in 2022.

It offers a range of amenities including a village store, two pubs, a 12th-century church, primary school, GP surgery and recreation ground.
