A 21-year-old man has been charged after a car crash caused a major gas leak in Tidworth.

Albert Kweku-Duah, from Aldershot, was charged with careless driving and driving without insurance after the Station Road crash at around 9pm on August 6.

The crash damaged a gas box serving multiple properties in the area and led to the evacuation of residents within a 100-metre radius due to safety concerns.

Kweku-Duah is due in court in October.

Witnesses said around eight police vehicles attended the scene.

Gas supplies to around 190 properties were cut off during emergency repairs.

Residents returned home in the afternoon, but a cordon remains on Station Road for the "foreseeable future" while repairs continue, according to councillor Keith Allen.

Affected residents were advised to contact SGN Customer Care on 0800 912 1700 for information and assistance.
