A decade can transform a city centre beyond recognition.
Photographs taken in 2016 reveal how Salisbury's high street has changed in just 10 years, with several well-known brands and independent businesses either closed, relocated or replaced.
On High Street, Burger King remained a popular spot until the first Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 forced its closure.
Debenhams, which dominated Market Square, closed in May 2021 during the national collapse of the chain.
Fashion retailers on New Canal have also disappeared from the high street in recent years.
Laura Ashley and Phase Eight were both trading in 2016, while Topshop and Topman remained popular destinations for younger shoppers until their closure in 2019.
The Reds travel shop on Endless Street later moved to the Cross Keys Shopping Centre before closing for good in 2022.
Salisbury Retail Park on Southampton Road has also changed.
Argos and Next once stood side by side, but the Argos unit is now home to a Hobbycraft store, which opened in 2024.
Elsewhere in the city, McDonald’s on Winchester Street underwent refurbishment works, and scenes of traffic on Minster Street and Catherine Street remain familiar.
The images highlight the lasting effects of the pandemic and changing retail trends on the high street.
