A gas leak has forced an emergency road closure.
The incident, which led to the closure of Devizes Road in Salisbury, occurred during ongoing gas main replacement works being carried out by SGN.
The gas leak was reported on the evening of October 30, prompting action from engineers.
A spokesperson for SGN said engineers had been working in Devizes Road, Salisbury, on Saturday, October 31, after a gas escape was reported on Friday, October 30.
"We’ve had to fully close the road between Kingsland Road and Ashley Road, and the leak has been made safe.
"We now need to replace a section of pipe in the carriageway where we’ve been working.
"Therefore, the road at this location needs to remain closed until next week.
"A signed diversion is in place.
"We’re sorry for the disruption this will cause to local residents and motorists, and we thank everyone for their patience while we complete the work.
"We’ll continue to monitor the site closely to keep people safe."
The closure began on October 31 and is expected to remain in place until November 9.
Devizes Road is already subject to a wider programme of planned works that began on October 12 and are scheduled to run until March 2027.
The project involves the full replacement of the gas main and is being carried out in multiple phases.
The current closure, which was originally set to extend from St Paul's Roundabout to Gas Lane, now runs as far as Ashley Road due to the gas escape.
The project is being delivered in stages, with each phase of the road closure expected to last several weeks.
Further phases will see the closure move further along Devizes Road towards Palmer Road, with each section taking between three and five weeks.
The company has previously warned that timings and closure points may change as work progresses.
Letters were sent to residents before work began, advising them of the planned closures and the possibility of changes.
The current closure affects the first phase of the works, which covers Devizes Road from St Paul’s Roundabout to Gas Lane.
