A YOUTH scheme in Salisbury celebrated its first birthday in style with an evening of entertainment at Salisbury Football Club and appearances from players Robbie Matthews and Jimmy Sangare.

Salisbury Blues N Zuz, which involves local councils, the police and housing associations, was set up last year to provide a safe environment for youngsters to enjoy music and dance. It aims to improve links between police and young people and community relations.

A total of 145 youngsters attended the event, many in fancy dress. The two Salisbury FC players were on hand to sign club DVDs and programmes, and Spire FM presenter Martin Starke added plenty of volume to the evening.

Reports of anti-social behaviour in Salisbury on the days in 2008 when the group held events showed an average decrease of 37 per cent compared with the same dates in 2007.
