Artist - Josh Fix
Album - This Town Is Starting To Make Me Angry
Label - Lojinx
Many musicians in Josh Fix’s position would count themselves lucky – to find a spot supporting The Who when Counting Crows had to drop out based on being in the right place at the right time, or getting your demo into the hands of Lenny Kravitz, Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai by plain old luck.
However, that luck would have been for nought if Fix’s music didn’t hold up. Piano-driven rock that recalls both Ben Folds on one hand, and, more importantly, the tongue in cheek Night At The Opera Queen or Breakfast In America Supertramp on the other.
When Fix’s debut album was released to huge acclaim in the US (including a Top 10 in Time Out New York’s 2008 Rock albums), his name was made.
This Town is the first release in the UK, and the 5-track EP goes a long way to explaining the success – it recalls the poppy, song-fronted era of Toto and Billy Joel.
There is no doubt that Europe will be ready and willing, should Fix’s ‘luck’ continue.
