Sadly for us, the beautiful Lunar Disc 1 sculpted by Emily Young and currently located in The Close, is on the move.
Its owner is sending the Disc, together with Wounded Angel (currently in Kew Gardens), to Loyola University, Chicago where they will stand as a memorial for the six Jesuit priests who were gunned down in El Salvador in 1989 for their work there for the rights of the poor.
Although we are sorry to have to say goodbye to the Disc, which was first installed here in 2004, we are fortunate that we still have Emily’s Angel Head ‘Gabriel’ on display in the cloister garden.
The Disc will be removed from The Close the week after Easter (7 - 8 April) in preparation for its long journey.
