BUDDING photographers can show off their skills in a new competition launched by Salisbury Cathedral.

My Salisbury Cathedral is a digital photography competition for snappers of all ages to enter their shots of the cathedral and the Cathedral Close.

There are five categories in the competition, running until August 31, which are architecture and stained glass, people, abstract and landscape, as well as young photographer for people aged 16 and under.

Prizes include a Sony camera donated by London Camera Exchange, a morning shadowing a Journal photographer, a half day photo tutorial with a professional photographer, vouchers for Castle Camera, a Spire FM balloon flight and the opportunity to cover the cathedral’s Advent procession.

The photograph chosen to be the overall winner will be printed onto a large canvas and displayed in the Cathedral Refectory for all visitors to see.

The judges will be the Journal’s chief photographer Roger Elliott, the cathedral’s canon chancellor Edward Probert and its official photographer Ash Mills, and Spire FM managing director Ceri Hurford-Jones.

“The quest for the perfect shot fascinates many of our annual 250,000 plus visitors, as well as those who live and work here,” said David Coulthard, director of marketing and communications.

“Hundreds of people take photographs here each day and it would be wonderful to see some of these and to be able to share them with a wider audience.”

All images – which should be between 1mb and 5mb – should be emailed to photos@salcath.co.uk, specifying what category it is intended for, with a maximum of one entry per category per person.

Each entry must also include your name, address, telephone and email address.
