DOZENS turned out to enjoy all the fun of the Damerham fair last Saturday.

Events took over the cricket field for the day and there were plenty of highlights for visitors who braved the odd sudden downpour.

Gunfire punctured the air, as a French, Napoleonic re-enactment artillery regiment, known as L'Artillerie Legere, transformed the site into a battlefield, bringing the memories of the past alive.

The Leicester-based group has members from across the country.

The units they re-create were used during the Napoleonic wars as "shock troops" and were always known to be involved in the fiercest of fire fights.

Their light artillery section demonstrated amazing tactics, speed and manoeuvrability as they entertained the crowds.

Elsewhere in the sports ground other activities were keeping people busy.

A dog show, in aid of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, attracted many entrants in pedigree and novelty classes and the fair's flower show, which always proves popular, boasted a range of blooms and gardening knowledge for others to aspire to.

The Wessex Ferret Club added an extra level to the fun and frolics, and the wily creatures were even spotted having an ice cream or two.
