Martn Barrios Hernndez has been warned that his life is at risk if he continues to help textile workers in the State of Puebla, Mexico, to improve their working conditions.
His friends and colleagues at the Human and Labour Rights Commission of Tehuacn Valley may also be in danger.
The commission has been publicising conditions in the textile factories: low pay, long hours, restrictions on forming trade unions and health risks posed by chemicals used in production.
This is not the first time that Martn Barrios faces threats and harassment for his human rights work. In December 2005 he was arrested on an apparently fabricated charge of blackmail. He was released in January.
In 2003, he was assaulted outside his home: no one was ever prosecuted for that attack.
Please write, calling for the authorities to take action to guarantee the safety of Martn, his family and members of the Human and Labour Rights Commission. Send appeals to:
His Excellency Seor Juan Bremer de Martino CVO, Embassy of Mexico, 16 St George Street, London W1S 1LX.
