FOUR south Wiltshire food producers came away with awards at this year's Taste of the West Food & Drink awards.

Ansty Pick Your Own farm shop, Loosehanger Farmhouse Cheeses, of Redlynch, Pertwood Organic Cereal Co Ltd, near Hindon, and Stourhead Farm Shop picked up silver and bronze awards in the annual competition, which is dedicated to finding the south-west's best quality products.

This year's entries ranged from smoked bacon to strong horseradish and cream, and altogether 30 products were awarded prizes. There were 19 classes covering bakery and confectionery, chilled and frozen desserts, ready meals and sauces, dairy, meat, preserves, drinks and fish.

Loosehanger Farmhouse Cheeses, who feature regularly at Salisbury farmers' market, picked up two silver medals - for their bustard with mustard and Woodfalls cheese - plus two bronze awards - for Woodfalls oak-smoked and Woodfalls green herb cheese.

Ansty Farm Shop won a bronze for its home-made raspberry and tayberry jam. So, too, did Pertwood Organic Cereal for its barley crisp maple syrup.

Stourhead Farm Shop's smoked bacon also earned a bronze award.

For the record, there was one gold award - and that went to Downland Pigs, of Chippenham, for its Pays Plat pat.
