SOUTH West Wiltshire MP Andrew Murrison is due to visit the Wessex Rehabilitation Centre at Salisbury District Hospital this afternoon.

Dr Murrison, a former Navy medic, has been asked by David Cameron to look into how the NHS can help veterans of the armed forces. In August he submitted his report Fighting Fit with recommendations on how to improve mental health services for veterans, which have been accepted in full by ministers and are now being implemented.

Dr Murrison is now looking at prosthetic services for amputees. In connection with this he is visiting a number of NHS limb centres and last week called on the British Limbless Ex Servicemen’s Association (BLESMA) at its HQ in Romford.

He said: “Servicemen who have lost limbs are rightly given the very best prosthetics whilst they are serving and we need to be sure that the same high quality provision continues when they leave the armed forces.”
