A DRUG addict who smashed through a door to get into a pharmacy has been given a suspended sentence and ordered to complete a drug rehabilitation programme.

Magistrates sitting in Salisbury on Thursday hear that 43-year-old Timothy Holdham broke into the pharmacy at Harcourt Medical Centre in July last year stole 61 pre-packed prescriptions.

Most of the medication was scattered around outside the building and was recovered but could not be used as it had left the premises, costing the pharmacy about £600.

Holdham, of Fisherton Street, Salisbury, pleaded guilty to theft at an earlier court appearance.

Nick Redhead, defending, said his client’s heroin addiction led him to commit crime. Mr Redhead said: “If one could somehow take drugs out of the equation he would not be committing offences and he would not be appearing before this court.”

Holdham was given a 10-week suspended sentence with 12 months supervision and is required to complete a six-month drug rehabilitation programme. He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation.
