A COUPLE from Salisbury entered the Journal’s wedding competition in the hope of making their family complete.

Laura Clarke, 22, and Matthew Baker, 25, met when they were out in Salisbury with friends but got to know each other a while later.

Laura, a carer, said: “About two weeks after we met I was sitting waiting in my car, which had broken down, and he went past. He came back and said to give him a ring if I needed help. I texted him later on to say thank you and we got talking.”

Afewdates later and the couple got together but Laura faced a problem when things became more serious.

“It was hard for me to get into a relationship because I was told I would never have children. One day we sat downand I told him if he ever wanted children we wouldn’t be able to. It was really awkward.”

After a while together, the pressures of not being able to have children led to the couple splitting up.

However, they got back together after a couple of months and soon afterwards, much to their surprise, Laura discovered she was pregnant.

Matthew, who works at Salisbury Glass, proposed to Laura on a busy Saturday in Salisbury.

“We were outside a jewellers and he just proposed there and then and toldmeto pickwhichever ring I wanted.

It was a bit embarrassing really,” said Laura.

“Everyone was walking past.”

Their son, Haydn, is noweight months old and the couple have been unable to afford to get married.

Laura said: “To get married would make our family complete. We’ve gone through a really difficult time together but nowwe’ve got him it’d be nice to all have the same surname.”
