A FANTASTIC firework festival is set to take place in Mere at the end of October.

The event is being organised by the Friends of Mere School thanks to grants from the Big Lottery Fund and the South West Area Board. The firework show will be orchestrated by Bill Deeker who was the pyrotechnic designate to the Royal Yacht Britannia and also created shows for Glastonbury Festival, The Larmer Tree Festival and Henley Regatta.

Before the show there will be an afternoon of activities from 3.30pm on October 30 at the Duchy Manor grounds. There will be a show from Cirque Bijou fire performers, an illuminated lantern parade, fancy dress hire, face painting, storytelling, pumpkin carving workshops and an art exhibition.

There will also be locally produced food and drink and a competition giving someone the chance to press the button to start the display.

Tickets are £10 for a family with three children, £4 for adults and £3 for children over 2.

They are available from the school reception, Hambledon Estate Agents, Mere Library, Sprout & Flower, The Walnut Tree or www.merefireworksfestival.co.uk.
