SALISBURY Cathedral's enormous Christmas tree is officially standing in place.
Standing at 32ft, this year's Christmas Tree came from Longleat’s sustainable forest and was originally grown as a 'nurse' tree for small self-seeded oaks.
By letting the conifers grow tall, the forestry team protect the little oaks as they develop, using the taller trees to shield them from frost and bad weather, and creating a microclimate in which they can flourish.
As previously reported, the giant tree arrived last Monday, December 4, on the back of a haulage lorry.
Since then, the tree has been decorated with beautiful baubles and lights, and now stands in place in the historic Wiltshire building.
The Works Yard team, led by Clerk of Works Gary Price, installed the huge Christmas Tree at the Cathedral's West End.
This year Richard Pike (seen on the cherry picker), the Cathedral’s ecclesiastical joiner, notched up his 33rd year installing and decorating the tree.
The Christmas tree traditionally remains in place until Candlemas February, 2, the day on which the Church celebrates the presentation of Jesus in the Temple.
