A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and drug offences after he was stopped by police on early morning patrols.

Officers arrested the man, aged 19, near to Culver Street Car Park at about 1.30am today (Friday) when they saw graffiti being sprayed against a wall in the area.

The 19-year-old was tracked down and arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of class A and B drugs.

He was initially taken to Salisbury District Hospital after feeling unwell, and was then taken to Melksham custody where he remains for questioning.

Officers are now appealing for any information of similar graffiti locations around Salisbury.

Inspector Pete Sparrow said: “The blight of graffiti on our streets has been a priority for the community policing teams in recent months so I am really pleased to see that the proactive patrols being carried out by officers have led to an arrest.

“Criminal damage can have a really negative impact on a community and it will not be tolerated. We urge people to feel pride in their community and this behaviour goes completely against this.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
