A SHOP worker was assaulted after two people tried to break into a safe at the Co-op in Salisbury last night (Saturday). 

Police say the burglary took place at the Co-op in Wilton Road at about 8.30pm.

Two people, who had their faces covered, entered the store and assaulted a staff member before attempting to break into the store’s safe.

They were unsuccessful and left on foot before getting into a vehicle waiting outside.

The vehicle is described as a black hatchback and drove off in the direction of Wilton.

The store assistant was shaken up but uninjured.

Anyone who was in the Wilton Road area last night or might have been driving through the area and may have dash cam footage of the vehicle involved, is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101 and quote crime reference number 54180001867.
