VOLUNTEERS with 4x4 vehicles have been called on to help get staff to work at Salisbury District Hospital, as snow and ice has left many unable to make it in.
Due to the heavy snow overnight and widespread travel disruption with buses and trains cancelled, health chiefs have asked for 4x4 owners who are “confident to drive in the current conditions” to collect and bring essential clinical staff to the hospital.
The appeal started last night with many taking up the call to help staff make their way in, but the hospital has said that it is likely to need drivers throughout the day and tomorrow.
Thank you to all the 4x4 volunteer drivers. We'll be calling asap and creating a list of who can help where. Please keep the offers coming, we are likely to need drivers throughout today and tomorrow . Please call 07854 113634 or tweet/message us on facebook. 👏👍🏥❄️

Those who helped out last night have been thanked by the director of nursing and midwifery Lorna Wilkinson.
On a post on Twitter, she said: “They were amazing last night and have superb vehicles.”
All staff unable to get in today due to the roads - we are coordinating a fleet of 4WD drivers. They were amazing last night and have superb vehicles. Please ensure your ward/dept has you listed and your details. We will get to you. @SalisburyNHS @CaraCBCEO

Despite the adverse weather conditions, the all emergency services are running but it has advised patients to only attend appointments if it is urgent.
Anyone who can help is asked to call 07854 113634 or contact the hospital on Twitter or Facebook.
