Justin Tomlinson, MP for North Swindon, called the decision a major jolt for Swindon. “Myself and Robert have already been in detailed discussions with Honda directly and the Business Secretary. We will be doing everything with our power to support all of the staff at both Honda and throughout the supply chain.”
Coun Emma Faramazi, chairman of Swindon Borough Council's Growing the Economy scrutiny committee, said: "I'm very disappointed, but we don't have a full picture yet."
South Swindon Labour tweeted: "Terrible news for the town and the Honda workforce. Justin Tomlinson and other Brexiteers should hang their hands in shame. #brexitshambles"
Colin McEwen, chairman of South Marston Parish Council, said: “It’s immensely sad. Goodness knows what else is going to happen after March 29. When one considers it’s a just in time system and they can’t afford any delays, one wonders what part Brexit may have played.”
Many of our residents will be directly affected by today’s announcement. Cllrs be discussing how the Parish Council may help those whose jobs are at risk over the next two years. Reminder that our CAB service runs at the Pinetrees Com Centre 01793 466499
