A FOOTBALL match between Laverstock and Ford and Bemerton Heath Harlequins was abandoned this afternoon after an assistant referee collapsed.

The health scare occurred at about 3.30 pm – approximately 30 minutes into the match and an ambulance was seen at the side of the pitch.

The Journal received reports that a defibrillator wasΒ used on the referee and that the Air Ambulance was also called.

A tweet from Bemerton Heath Harlequins stated that the assistant referee "seems cognisant after attention from staff and team physiotherapists".
