A 'GOOD day of close matches' was enjoyed by Wiltshire Short Mat bowlers as they took on England Ladies at Corsham Springfield on Sunday, January 8.

England Ladies won (on points) 30-18 and by (on shots) 259-213.

Wiltshire team captain, Karen Kirby, said: "It was a good day with some very close games.' 

Les Kirby, WSMBA Chairman, said: "It is a great experience to play against some very good players. We look forward to doing it again next year.'

Wiltshire have also qualified for the Inter County Competition Premier 2 winners and runners-up knock-out competition.

After a difficult start to the season, Wiltshire convincingly won their last three games against Oxford, Avon and Somerset to finish second in their group.

Knock-out games will start next month.

Wiltshire now have the opportunity to join the elite Premier 1 league of top counties.

County leagues are now at the halfway stage.

In the North League, Melksham lead with Crudwell second and Marshfield third. In the South League, Chalke Valley are current leaders; Market Lavington follow with Dinton third. White Horse are in fourth place but have a number of games in hand.
