A Salisbury grassroots football club has been named the best in county, according to the Wiltshire FA.

Salisbury Rovers FC were awarded 'Club of the Year,' by the Wiltshire FA, for the third time in its eight year history.

Based at the city's Five Rivers Leisure Centre, Rovers say they were created to do things differently and have grown rapidly over the last few years.

Since its founding in 2016, the club has grown into a significant football community with a ground-breaking identity as an award-winning, inclusive, child-led youth football club.

In a statement, Coach and Club Secretary, Debbie Sayers said: "To win the award three times is an incredible honour for our young club and it is recognition that Rovers is helping to lead the fight for change and for progressive, child-led, evidence-based practice in youth football!

"At Rovers, we never trial. There is no evidence to support selection and early cuts. We are not in the business of chasing short-term wins or peddling dreams of glory.

"Instead, we think long-term. We want young people to stay in the game and reach their potential. We offer a positive, fun environment led by young people to encourage their creativity and their ownership of the game.

We are always considering to the latest evidence to support all young people’s personal and football development.”

Will future legends come from Salisbury? Will future legends come from Salisbury? On their website, Rovers assert you have to give the future Messis and Ronaldos of the world freedom to run at people, take risks and be creative.

Debbie continued: “We thank all coaches, volunteers, parents and children for their unwavering support and for their willingness to strive, uncompromisingly, for excellence for our children.

"We will continue to put into practice our belief that the game belongs to the people who play it!”
