Summer Handicap Badminton Tournament held in Salisbury

The inaugural Summer Handicap Badminton Tournament was held on Sunday, August 10, at the Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre.

A total of 40 players from across Wiltshire took part in the event, which was organised by SMART Performance and Salisbury Badminton Club.

Haydn Dibble, of SMART Performance, said: "I organised the tournament to get players of all ages and abilities competing with each other with a handicap system to level the playing field.

"This worked very well to make for a competitive day all round as well as a great social event with all players supporting each other.

"Look out for another one coming at Christmas."

Salisbury badminton tournament (Image: Haydn Dibble) Players were grouped into pools of five, with group winners advancing to play-offs and the top group winners moving on to the semi-finals and final.

The final saw Warminster’s Socrates MacAdams and Ignas Jurevicius defeat Salisbury’s Matt Young and Josh Bliss in three closely contested games.

Haydn described the day as "an excellent day’s badminton played in wonderful spirits, promoting the local badminton scene."

The event was sponsored by Marshall BMW and MINI, and organisers hope to make it a regular fixture on the badminton calendar.
