Women from a Salisbury cycling group will lead a safety awareness ride through the city on October 22.
COGS (Cycling Opportunities Group Salisbury) is organising the Salisbury Glow Ride to highlight concerns about women’s safety while cycling.
The women-led event is open to everyone and will start and finish at Guildhall Square, Market Place. It will run from 6pm to 7.30pm, with the ride itself expected to last no more than 45 minutes.
Organisers said glow rides are colourful cycling events which raise the need for safer streets and better cycle routes. Similar rides are being organised by local people across the UK, with support from cycling campaign charity Cycling UK.

The event forms part of Cycling UK’s My Ride, Our Right campaign. It highlights how women are more likely than men to be discouraged from cycling by fears about heavy traffic, poor road infrastructure and intimidating behaviour from drivers.
Participants are encouraged to use bike lights and glow sticks during the ride around Salisbury’s streets and parks.
People can register through the Cycling UK website by finding Salisbury on the Glow Rides map. Organisers said participants can turn up on the evening without registering.
